This class is part of the Biotechnology Pathway. The course is divided into two year long classes. In order to receive Merced College credit you must complete both semesters and maintain an average grade of a B (80% and above).
Course Outline:
Biotech I recap: review practices learned in Biotech I.
Bacterial Transformation, Plasmid Purification and the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR): Learn techniques for DNA manipulation and replication, such as transformation and PCR.
Protein Structure and Analysis: Learn basic protein analysis techniques, including protein quantitation, chromatography, and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
Immunological Applications: Extends concepts learned to the use of antibodies in protein research
Research Project: Students take the skills developed over the duration of the course and apply them to an independent research project.
